Yes! For Health & Wellbeing Coaches, supervision is an essential part of professional standards. Regular coaching supervision protects coaches working in non-clinical roles, supports safe practice and ensures alignment with the coaching scope of practice. It also helps coaches maintain clarity, resilience and ethical, person-centred conversations in complex settings.

Major coaching bodies including the EMCC, ICF, Association for Coaching and UKIHCA recommend that coaches receive quarterly supervision as a minimum requirement. If you are seeing large numbers of clients bi-monthly or monthly coaching supervision may be required.

Supervision gives you what self-reflection alone can’t. It gives you an independent perspective, a safe space to explore challenges, feedback on blind spots and stronger ethical decision-making. It also provides essential support for your own wellbeing.
Whether you’re newly qualified or highly experienced, supervision strengthens your confidence, creativity and effectiveness. When coaching supervision is a regular part of your practice, coachees benefit too — sessions become more tailored, ethical and impactful.

For many coaches, particularly those with healthcare or organisational backgrounds, the word “supervision” carries unhelpful associations: hierarchy, assessment, or “being watched”. Coaching supervision is completely different. It is a collaborative, reflective process designed to support you. It offers a confidential, psychologically safe space to explore your work, celebrate what’s going well, reflect on challenges and examine your own responses, patterns and assumptions.
