We are delighted to welcome Dr Siobhan McCormack as our Guest Speaker for this month's LifeMed Knowledge session.
"What's bugs got to do with it?"
The importance of microbiome health for pre-habilitation & peri-operative care.
The gut microbiome is now viewed as a central determinant of surgical risk, resilience and recovery. Across pre‑, peri‑ and postoperative phases, diet, drugs and surgery itself reshape the gut microbiome, which in turn influences inflammation, wound healing, infections, cognition and length of stay. Join Dr Shiv to learn about practical lifestyle‑oriented strategies especially microbiome‑supportive dietary approaches, which can be layered onto standard perioperative care to improve outcomes. This information can also be applied to non surgical settings to improve your own health and that of your family, friends and patients/clients.
Dr Siobhan McCormack has been an NHS GP for over 35 years. She is a BSLM diplomate and fellow, who recently completed the MSc Nutritional Medicine from Surrey University. Dr Shiv has spent several years deep diving into the role of human microbiomes in all aspects of human health. Together with fellow GP Dr Sheena Fraser, she co-authored an 8-week e-learning course for the BSLM (The Fundamentals of the Gut Microbiome) and they co-host Microbiome Medics Podcast. Dr Shiv writes and lectures widely on Lifestyle Medicine, Nutrition and the Gut Microbiome both to fellow clinicians and the public. She sits on the UK Gut Microbiome for Health Expert Panel. Despite her obsession with gut bugs and nutrition, Shiv is a lousy cook but loves walking, running and doing bendy stuff. Her superpower is the ability to fall into a deep and restful sleep within seconds absolutely anywhere.

Our Mindset Mastery series continues this month for healthcare professionals who are taking the next step — building a coaching practice, developing a Lifestyle Medicine offer or finding ways to grow what they have already started.
"From Knowing to Doing"
Knowing what to do and doing it are very different things. Whether this is telling people what you do, reaching out to potential clients, showing up consistently online, creating content. The barrier is rarely a lack of knowledge or good intentions. Having explored earlier in the series 'starting before you feel ready' and 'navigating imposter syndrome', we now turn to the question — why do we still find ourselves stuck even when we know what to do?
Join us for a practical, honest session on closing the gap between knowing and doing — and moving from intention to consistent action.

We are delighted to welcome Special Guest Dr Amy-Jo Farrow to this month's LifeMed Coaching session.
"I incite this workshop to whimsy"
Let’s explore art, play and other creative pleasures - to create a salve for burnout.
We’ll dip our toes into the science of neuroaesthetics.
Dr Amy-Jo Farrow works as a transformational coach for doctors who want to make changes to avoid recurrent burnout.
She also works as an occupational health physician.
Her interests include preventative and complementary medicine, and personal development.
Beyond the professional she has a family and enjoys the little things in life (catching up with friends, dancing, drawing, singing out of tune, lifting heavy things, and coffee).

This week's Live Session is LifeMed Clinical, our monthly reflective practice session. LifeMed Clinical sessions are a reflective space for you to bring whatever is important to you in your Lifestyle Medicine or Coaching practice.
If you do bring a case to the session, please ensure that confidentiality is maintained and no patient-identifiable information is used.
If you have topics that you would like to discuss but would prefer these not to be included in the recording please let us know either during or shortly after the session and we will edit these out. We're here to help and support you.
Each week our Live Sessions follow one of our four ‘threads’ LifeMed Clinical, LifeMed Coaching, LifeMed Practice and LifeMed Knowledge. This gives an average of one session per thread each month, with a minimum of 10 Live Sessions per thread each year.
